The Process (How Coaching Works)
Intake "Discovery" Session
The coaching process begins with the Discovery Session. Prior to this
session, the client fills out an intake questionnaire. The purpose of the
Discovery Session is to create a foundation for the coaching
relationship. As the coach, I am getting a sense of who the client is,
what's going on in their life, and what they want to get out of coaching.
Coaching Session
A typical coaching session follows this format:
Check-in
Coaching sessions usually begin with a check in and an
update on progress since the previous session.
After the check-in, the client brings up an issue or
challenge that they are facing, and we work together to find the solution or
way that will work best for the client. The client decides what to focus
on in each call and the coach supports their exploration, learning, and growth.
The session ends with a commitment to make a change or an
inquiry (a question designed to support continued learning and evoke new
insights) to ponder for the next week.
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs.
Ask
yourself what makes you come alive. And then go do it.
Because what the world
needs is people who have come alive."
-- Howard Thurman
